Restaurant POS vs Order Management System: What's the Difference?

A restaurant POS is the full counter system. An order management system tracks the ticket. SpoonCub is the order ticket plus a simple close, not a full POS.

A POS tries to run the outlet: bill, stock, users, printers, sometimes the kitchen. An order management system tracks what was ordered and whether it is still open. Small restaurants often buy a POS when they only needed the second.

Restaurant POS

  • Counter hardware is common.
  • Inventory, tax invoices, and extra modules show up in the demo.
  • Worth it when those modules are used every week.

Order management

  • The open ticket is the product.
  • Changes happen on that ticket, not on a second screen.
  • SpoonCub is this, with checkout so the ticket can close.

Which one to run

Buy a POS if stock or aggregator orders are in the weekly work. Use SpoonCub if the weekly work is tables, takeaway, and the till.
